If you are serious about it, blogging is a 24/7 activity that needs constant attention. You not only need to create new and quality content, but you must also interact with your readers, follow social media, up-keep your site, and much more… Maybe you can’t be in your office, or have your laptop with you, but thanks to developing technology you can now work on your blog from your smartphone, on the go.

Here are the ten apps you need for those few moments away from the computer, that do everything from editing photos to curating posts. They are available for both tablets and phones.

WordPress-app

WordPress

WordPress celebrated last year’s 10th anniversary powering 60 million sites, 22% of new-comers, and their smartphones apps were downloaded 5 million times (more stats). It is the most popular content management system (CMS) out there, compatible with both self-hosted blogs and WordPress.com blogs and available for almost every device.

You can use it to write, edit and publish posts on your blog, upload images and videos, moderate comments, check stats, and even get inspired with great content from other popular blogs in the Reader. The app is fully functional, user-friendly, and can provide very similar experience to using WordPress on your desktop.

Google Drive

You can save all your work, every image, video, Word and Excel file related to your blog, on your Google Drive. This way you free space on your computer, and if you allow Google to sync this content across all your devices, you’ll get access to everything important from wherever you are. Download the app on your phone, and you can finish a blog post from your drafts while stuck in traffic, for example.

Writer

It’s easy to get things done if there aren’t any distractions. And when it comes to blogging on the go, apps and incoming notifications can really kill productivity. The Writer application lets you write a blog post, take a note, or draft an idea that pops in your head in a distraction-free writing environment, where you can focus solely on your text content using a mobile phone.

SwiftKey Keyboard

SwiftKey is one of the most popular Android keyboards for smartphones, and no.1 best-selling app in 58 Google Play countries. It provides a really fast typing experience, and not only corrects your typos, but also offers word-predictions in 61 world languages based on your past writing. If you are tired of clicking those small buttons on your phone and adjusting mistakes, let SwiftKey learn how you type, what words you use and combine together, and adapt to you and your style to be of best assistance.

Pixlr Express – photo editing

If you are shooting the best iPhone pictures, and want to fine-tune and post them on your blog, or share directly on your Facebook page, Pixlr is all you need. You can crop, resize and edit any photo, apply overlays and borders from the growing catalog, or use different effects that make your visual content look professional even though this may be your first ever edited image.

Pixlr-app

Google Analytics

To stop worrying about your blog performance the next time you go someplace without access to your computer, make sure to download the Google Analytics application on your phone. I wrote a post on why you need Analytics for your blog, and if you want to know your traffic numbers, bounce rates, and other usage statistics and site metrics no matter where you are, this app for you is crucial.

HootSuite (Twitter & Facebook)

Social media is now huge part of any bloggers’ life, and how can it not be given the importance social signals have in websites’ rankings and popularity (If it isn’t working for you, click to find out why). HootSuite will help you manage your Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or Foursquare account, organize tweets, schedule posts and messages, monitor conversations and mentions, as well as track social campaign results from your phone while on the go.

LinkedIn Pulse

Pulse-app

Pulse is an amazing application bloggers can use to follow their favorite blogs and RSS feeds, stay updated with the latest in their industry, as well as get inspired when creating new content for their blogs. You simply add the URLs, organize them into categories (to make feeds easier to read), and whenever they publish new content you’ll get notified to read it with just a tap of your finger. If at that moment you can’t give the posts the attention they deserve, use the app that follows.

Pocket

Pocket will let you organize and save for reading later all the insightful articles and blog posts, videos and pretty much everything that you come across on the Internet that you would love to read or watch but don’t have the time. Instead of bookmarking and sending links to yourself, you can add them to your Pocket account directly from your browser (check these extensions), and have your content with you wherever you go, automatically synced to be accessed from all devices.

Skype – free IM & video calls

And last but not least, to keep the communication flowing between you and your writers, fellow bloggers and clients, install the Skype app. This way, whenever something urgent needs your attention (like a social media crisis, for example) it will be easy to get the information to you on time, no matter where you are.

Back to you…

Do you use some of the apps mentioned above on daily basis? There are certainly some you can add to the list. I’d love to read about them in the comments…
